A Pest-Free Healthy Home

No one likes having pesky neighbors but imagine having those pesky neighbors living in your home and eating your food uninvited! This is what it’s like having a pest infestation, and it can be costly and time-consuming to have them removed professionally. So how do you avoid having pests come into your home in the first place? Keep reading to discover some tips on how to keep a pest-free home.

Keep Food Properly Stored

Pests love to chow down on your food, including your pets’ food. Because of this, it is important to keep all food properly stored. If you have dry goods, keep them in airtight containers. Make sure that fruit and vegetables are kept in containers or in the fridge. Any other food should always be kept in the refrigerator- do not leave it sitting out! Ensuring that your food is stored in its proper place means that you have a much better chance of keeping pests at bay.

Keep Trash Tightly Sealed

There are several pests that are attracted to the scent of rotting trash. So, this means that you should try keeping your trash as concealed as possible. Make sure that your outdoor trash cans close and can be tightly sealed. Keep all indoor trash sealed as well, especially those located in the kitchen as the hunt for food is one of the main reasons why pests enter your home.

Keep Your Home Clean

If your house is kept free of dirt, mold and food crumbs, then you have a much better chance of having a pest-free home. This means keeping up with cleaning the inside of your kitchen cabinets and pantry, making sure that any spills are wiped up immediately and sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors. Keep any areas that are prone to mold as well ventilated as possible. Try to keep clutter to a minimum, as pests love to make their nests in those areas. So, to sum up, the cleaner your home, the less likely you are to have a pest infestation!

Keep Your Home Well Sealed

If you see cracks in your windows, doors or walls, it is important to make sure that they are properly repaired. Any unsealed doors or windows should be repaired as well. If your window or door screens have rips or tears, replace them. Bugs and other critters like to get into your home in any way that they can, which is commonly through any cracks or holes.
